Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders Both Vow to Choose Female VPs During Democrat Debate

Former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders both vowed to choose women for their vice presidents if they get the nomination during Sunday night’s Democratic debate.

Neither candidate promised to pick the best candidate for the job, simply a “woman.”

“If I’m elected president, my cabinet — my administration — will look like the country and I commit that I will in fact appoint a — pick a — woman to be vice president,” said Biden. “There are a number of women who are qualified to be president tomorrow. I would pick a woman to be my vice president.”

Biden’s identity politics driven promises did not stop there. He also promised that if he has an opportunity to appoint someone to the Supreme Court it will be a black woman.

“I commit that if I’m elected and have an opportunity to appoint someone to the court, I’ll appoint the first black woman to the court,” Biden added. “It’s required that they have representation now. It’s long overdue.”

For his part, Sanders said that “in all likelihood, I will,” choose a female running mate. “For me, it’s not just nominating a woman. It is making sure that we have a progressive woman and there are progressive women out there.”

Sanders added, “My very strong tendency is to move in that direction.”

The debate was supposed to take place in Phoenix, Arizona — but was instead held in Washington, DC, without an audience, over coronavirus concerns.
