A gunman is in custody after opening fire from the roof of an apartment building in South Los Angeles on Monday morning, sending three people to the hospital and drawing a large emergency response that shut down streets around Denver Avenue.
LAPD officers responded around 10:50 a.m. to reports of shots fired in the 7000 block of Denver Avenue, near South Figueroa Street and West Florence Avenue in the Vermont-Slauson area.

Scanner traffic and local reports indicated the shooter took an elevated position on the rooftop of an apartment complex. Emergency crews transported three patients from the scene. Their conditions were not immediately released, according to the Citizen app.
FOX 11 reported a heavy police presence and a large perimeter as investigators worked the scene. Multiple roads were blocked and the public was told to stay away. This remains a developing investigation. Identities of the injured and a motive have not been released.

Once again, it happened in California, the state Democrats hold up as the gold standard for gun control. Universal background checks, waiting periods, “assault weapon” bans, magazine limits, ammunition background checks, red-flag laws, one-gun-a-month rationing that courts have already started striking down, and a long list of other restrictions that law-abiding residents must navigate. Criminals ignore all of it.
California accounts for a disproportionate share of the nation’s firearm homicides despite ranking at the top of every gun-control scorecard.
In 2021 CDC data, the state recorded thousands of firearm murders while Newsom contrasted “homicide rates” with red states and skipped the raw numbers.
