Maryland Governor Wes Moore made an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, where he was asked about the illegal alien and repeat criminal who was arrested for raping a minor in Maryland last week.
He quickly deflected from the incident, defended his own record, and declared that ICE “continues to violate the basic laws of our state” and is “not going to be tolerated.”
As The Gateway Pundit reported, an illegal alien from Guinea, who was previously arrested in New York for other sex crimes against a child, was charged with raping a teen girl in Maryland while working as a rideshare driver.
This is the same state where Democrats erupted over the deportation of MS-13 gangster Kilmar Abrego Garcia, while ignoring the murder of Rachel Morin, a Maryland mother who was horrifically raped and murdered by a Salvadoran illegal alien in 2023.
“When you hear this, do you understand how upset this makes people?” Dana Bash asked Moore after highlighting the incident.
“I understand that, and I think that I want the people of my state to understand that I have no tolerance for violent offenders. Period and full stop,” Moore responded before going on to push bogus crime statistics for the state.
“There is nothing that we will not do to make sure that our communities are safe. It’s the reason we made historic investments in local law enforcement. It’s the reason that we have been very clear that if someone commits a violent crime in our state, I want them in handcuffs in 24 hours, and they will have accountability coming their way,” he claimed. “And we’ve now seen that Maryland has now had amongst the fastest drops in violent crime anywhere in the United States of America.”
While ignoring his record of preventing ICE from arresting criminals, Moore continued, “So I will work with all partners, particularly when it comes to dealing with violent offenders, removing them from our communities, and making sure they are accountable. And that includes our federal partners when it comes to immigration services.”
From day one of Trump’s second term, Maryland has been impeding ICE. As The Gateway Pundit reported, in January 2025, Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown issued new guidance for law enforcement, threatening penalties for cooperation with ICE. Then-ICE Field Office Director Matthew Elliston previously slammed the Attorney General’s guidance as “terrible for public safety.”
Moore has since enacted a plethora of laws and actions prohibiting local police cooperation with the agency, barring police from detaining illegal aliens for ICE or contacting ICE about a detainee’s immigration status, and establishing an Immigrant Rights Protection Task Force.
Moore went on to attack ICE, claiming the agency is putting “unaccountable and unqualified people” on Maryland streets and that they’re “arresting five-year-olds.”
He continued, “So I will work to make sure that our communities are safe and address violent criminals everywhere they are. But I also know this. Is that the idea that we are supporting a Trump/Vance ICE operation that continues to violate the basic laws of our state. That also is not going to be tolerated.”
Instead of asking any follow-up questions, however, Bash quickly pivoted to Moore’s upcoming trip to Nevada. Some journalist she is!
